Sūrah Az-Zalzalah (سورة الزلزلة)
Meaning: The Earthquake
Chapter: 99
Verses: 8
Place of Revelation: Medinan
🌍 Overview
This surah vividly describes the earthquake on the Day of Judgment when the entire earth will shake violently and reveal all that has been done by people — every small deed, good or bad. It’s a reminder that nothing escapes Allah’s knowledge or justice.
📖 Verse-by-Verse Explanation
1–2: The Earth’s Violent Tremor
“When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
And the earth discharges its burdens.”
🌎 The earth will shake fiercely, shaking out all it holds — the dead, the secrets, the deeds buried beneath.
3–4: People Asking What’s Happening
“And man says, ‘What is [wrong] with it?’
That Day, it will report its news.”
😮 People will be confused and scared, but the earth will testify about everything — no secret will remain hidden.
5–6: Revealing Every Deed
“Because your Lord has commanded it.
That Day, the people will emerge separated [into categories] to be shown their deeds.”
👥 People will be gathered and judged, each according to their actions.
7–8: The Judgment of Deeds
“So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it,
And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”
⚖️ No deed is too small to be accounted for — every good and every bad will be made clear.
