This surah explains how the truth of Islam was made clear through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the Qur’an. It highlights that those who reject this clear evidence are the ones truly lost, while those who believe and do righteous deeds are rewarded.
📖 Verse-by-Verse Explanation
1–2: The Arrival of Clear Evidence
لَمْ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ
رَسُولٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتْلُوا۟ صُحُفًا مُّطَهَّرَةًۭ
“Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from disbelief] until there came to them clear evidence —
A Messenger from Allah reciting purified scriptures.”
🔹 Clear evidence means the Prophet ﷺ and the Qur’an, the ultimate guidance and undeniable truth.
3: The True Religion Made Clear
فِيهَا كُتُبٌۭ قَيِّمَةٌۭ
“Within which are correct writings.”
The scriptures revealed are:

Free from error.
4–5: People Divided by Belief
وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ
وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلْقَيِّمَةِ
“Those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after clear evidence had come to them —
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, sincere to Him in religion, upright, and to establish prayer and give zakah. And that is the correct religion.”

6: The Reward for Believers
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ
“Indeed, those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.”
A stern warning against rejecting the clear evidence.
7: The Reward for the Righteous
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ ۙ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ
“Except those who believe and do righteous deeds — those are the best of creatures.”
Those who accept the truth and act accordingly are honored.
8: Their Eternal Reward
جَزَآؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۖ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوْا۟ عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن خَشِيَ رَبَّهُۥ
“Their reward with their Lord is gardens of eternity beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is for those who fear their Lord.”
This is the ultimate success and happiness.
