Al-Qadr (The Power)

Sūrah Al-Qadr (سورة القدر)

Meaning: The Night of Power / Decree
Chapter: 97
Verses: 5
Place of Revelation: Meccan

🌌 Overview: What Is Laylat al-Qadr?

This surah speaks about Laylat al-Qadr, the most sacred night of the Islamic calendar — the night on which the Qur’an was first revealed. Allah describes it as a night better than a thousand months, a night filled with peace, mercy, and angels.

📖 Verse-by-Verse Explanation

1. The Majestic Beginning

“Indeed, We sent it [the Qur’an] down on the Night of Decree.”

🌙 Allah Himself is saying “We revealed it” — the Qur’an, the final guidance — on this incredibly powerful night.

This marks the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ via Angel Jibrīl.

2. The Question: What Is Laylat al-Qadr?

“And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is?”

💡 This rhetorical question builds awe and mystery. It’s as if Allah is saying:

“You have no idea how grand this night truly is.”

3. The Worth of the Night

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”

🌠 That's over 83 years — a lifetime.

➡️ A single night of sincere worship, prayer, or charity during Laylat al-Qadr is worth more than a lifetime of good deeds.

This is Allah’s gift of unmatched reward for those who seek Him in the night.

4. The Descent of the Angels

“The angels and the Spirit [Jibrīl] descend in it, by the permission of their Lord, with every matter.”

🌌 On this night:

  • Countless angels come down to Earth,

  • Jibrīl (Gabriel) himself descends — the only time outside of revelation,

  • They bring with them peace, blessings, and the decrees for the coming year.

It’s a night of divine presence, spiritual energy, and sacred writing of destinies.

5. A Night of Peace Until Dawn

“Peace it is, until the rise of dawn.”

🌙 This night is:

  • Filled with peace — no harm, stress, or evil can overpower it,

  • A time of inner stillness and angelic serenity,

  • Lasts until dawn — a full night of tranquility and connection to Allah.
