Chapter: 104
Verses: 9
Place of Revelation: Meccan

🗣️ Overview

This surah condemns those who slander others, gossip, mock, and greedily amass wealth without regard for the consequences. It warns that such behavior leads to a painful punishment in the Hereafter.

📖 Verse-by-Verse Explanation

1–3: The Accusation

“Woe to every scorner and mocker
Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.
He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.”

❌ The surah starts by condemning those who backbite, slander, and greedily hoard wealth thinking it will secure their legacy or power forever.

4–6: The Warning

“No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
And what can make you know what the Crusher is?
It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled.”

🔥 The “Crusher” (Al-Hutamah) is described as an intense fire of Allah’s punishment awaiting those who behave this way.

7–9: The Reality of the Punishment

“Which leaps up over the hearts.
Indeed, it [Hellfire] will be closed down upon them
In extended columns.”

🔥 The punishment is severe and inevitable, closing in on their very hearts, sealed and confined in tight columns.
